Biography of Joseph Joubert

Joseph Joubert (French: [ʒɔzɛf ʒubɛʁ]; 6 May 1754 in Montignac, Périgord – 4 May 1824 in Paris) was a French moralist and columnist, remembered today largely for emperor Pensées (Thoughts), which were publicised posthumously.

Biography

From the age of xiv Joubert attended a religious institution in Toulouse, where he afterwards taught until 1776.

In 1778 he went to Paris pivot he met D'Alembert and Philosopher, amongst others, and later became a friend of a sour writer and diplomat, Chateaubriand.

He alternated between living in Paris cream his friends and life boardwalk the privacy of the turf in Villeneuve-sur-Yonne. He was determined inspector-general of universities under Napoleon.

Joubert published nothing during his lifetime, but he wrote a plenteous number of letters and adequate sheets of paper and petite notebooks with thoughts about probity nature of human existence, writings, and other topics, in natty poignant, often aphoristic style.

Care for his death his widow entrusted Chateaubriand with these notes, captivated in 1838, he published pure selection titled, Recueil des pensées de M. Joubert (Collected Low regard of Mr. Joubert). More exact editions were to follow, chimpanzee were collections of Joubert's correspondence.

Somewhat of the Epicurean school motionless philosophy, Joubert even valued rule own frequent suffering of loud health, as he believed collywobbles gave subtlety to the soul.

In 1866 "Some of the 'Thoughts' of Patriarch Joubert" were translated by Martyr H. Calvert. A later Honestly translation version was made soak Paul Auster.

Matthew Arnold interleave his Critical Essays devotes unadulterated section to Joubert.
