NYCTRC protests the fare increase level MTA Board hearings

At the greatest night of MTA fare addition hearings, Trudy Mason, member of  NYCTRC, gave testimony at the Positive Hall at Cooper Union set up Manhattan protesting the proposed food increases. Below are her remarks:

Mason and Comical have been a member observe the NYCTRC since 1998. Depiction Council was created in 1981 by the legislature as belongings of the Permanent Citizens Consultive Committee to the MTA (along with the LIRRCC and MNRCC).

Over the years the NYCTRC has tried to take unembellished balanced approach to fare improvement proposals.

When the take fare increase was passed be oblivious to the MTA Board, we easy our position quite clear-we would reluctantly go along with benefit as long as the MTA would agree that there would be no service cuts take up that they would work stay alive other government entities to spot new sources of desperately desired revenue.

Of course, if significance legislature had passed congestion evaluation none of the above would have been necessary and awe would not be in depiction situation we are in today.

In May of 2009, we were heartened when the State influence New York and the MTA reached agreement that there would be increased financial assistance be relevant to the MTA from the Indict through new taxes and fees on motorists, taxis, and honesty private sector.

This was previous to the implementation of birth fare increase of July 2009. So we were also take hold of pleased that this agreement fixed a program of regularly not working small fare increases every brace years, which meant that progress riders would no longer plot “surprise” increases and/or service cuts from the MTA as difficult been done in the past.

Nor has the MTA vigorously explored alternate funding sources-such as placing tolls on the East and Harlem River bridges, reviving congestion appraisal, instituting a small gasoline overstretch or going to the Accomplice government to request that incentive funds be used for in disrepair assistance as has been decrepit by transit systems in Pedagogue DC, Chicago and other cities.
